A jewel in Goan Paradise. A really nice & quite beach, away from city noise & pollution.
Kakolem beach is situated in Canacona, at a distance of nearly 30 km from Margao. It's relatively isolated & it involves trekking to get on to the beach. There is no frequent public transport to reach the beach. You get public bus transport till Qola bus stop but rest of the route you need to travel by yourself. And is not so advisable. The best way to get to the spot is by private transport.
The beach is around 20 km from famous Cabo-de-rama beach. It spans over 200 km & is calm & clean beach. One has to trek through the hills to see the spectacular beach. The way towards the beach is through wavy turns & some laterite stairs in between. The beach is under private property & you will not find any choice for refreshments. There is only one shack where you can dine at. But if you carry your own lunch or cook some stuff or barbaque at the beach enjoying the beach beauty then nothing like it.
It's a nice adventurous beach where people can enjoy water sports provided you carry your own equipment's.
One can plan their trip to Kakolem beach as follows:
Start your travel early in the morning, so that you arrive at around 9-10 am at the beach. Set your tent in the coconut grooves. People loving the sunny beach environment can directly land onto the beach. Play games or directly dive into the ocean & enjoy swimming in cool calm water. During lunch time, get near the tent area. That's the only place where you can expect some kinda shade. Enjoy your lunch gazing the beach beauty. Take some rest after lunch & around 3 pm you can again set into ocean swimming, playing or trying some adventurous activities like snorkeling etc. One has to plan your activities such that you need to start your return journey when there is little light around. As it's same route through laterite stairs to reach the parking lot.
Overall it's a nice picnic spot for young enthusiast or even elderly people having no health issues, taking into consideration the trek it involves. It's clean blue waters really attracts nature lovers. The scene is so beautiful & can be nicely captured into pics.
Normally one likes to be on the beach till late in the evening. But on this beach one can enjoy the cool evening breeze with some light wave music, with your own bhutta (maize) & bhajiya (pakodas). But you can't delay too long as you need to trek back the same route & its little risky in the dark.
Overall you will have really nice exciting & adventurous experience on this small beach. Enjoy since morning to sunset & set back home when there is light around. It's a really nice beach which one should visit atleast once.
