Gokak - a place of Worship & Recreation......

Mahalingeshwar temple is one of the ancient temples in Karnataka.
It was built in 6th century along the banks of Ghataprabha river. The temple is the masterpiece of the ancient sculpture and now belongs to archaeological department of the state. It lies in Belgavi taluka head ie Gokak.

You get the most spectacular view of "The Niagara waterfalls of Karnataka" so called most popularly, from this temple area. The actual name of the waterfall is Gokak falls. Although the waterfall is perennial but its spectacular to see it during and post monsoons by just sitting at the benches in the temple vicinity or from the green garden around.

This place also has one of the oldest man made wooden bridge, one can say "the hanging bridge" which locals use for daily commuting between villages. Its adventurous to cross the river from this bridge. Its interesting to note that the science of cable bridges is nothing new, our old generation already knew it. Although they didn't have the modern technology, but the basic science is the same.
The base of the water fall has the oldest hydro electric plant which supplies electricity to the most ancient and the only yarn mill in India. Its the best spiritual as well as recreational place for young to old people.

My personal advice would be: if you have a chance then don't miss visiting this place at least once in your lifetime.

Guys see you soon with another travel experience. Keep visiting and get cheered with more travel places & update your travel diary...
